Learning Palace is a family owned educational store dedicated to serving the needs of schools, teachers, and parents throughout the Northwest. At Learning Palace, you will find everything from construction kits for children, to classroom decorations for teachers. We have seven locations throughout Oregon and Washington, with our main office located in Portland, Oregon. Norman and Norma Faris opened their first Learning Palace store in March of 1982. The first store featured only 1400 square feet of retail space – it was small! When asked what prompted his family to enter the educational supply industry, Norman replied jokingly that “it was all Norma’s fault!” He explained that they had been frustrated in their search for quality materials to supplement their children’s education and had decided to open the store to assist other parents in enriching the learning experience for their children. Norman and Norma began the business by themselves, but now have brought their son, three daughters, son-in-law, and several other relatives into the business to help with the day-to-day operations. Running seven stores has been a formidable challenge for the family, and Norman always attributed Learning Palace's success to providing their customers with exceptional service and high-quality, hard-to-find educational products. He felt that they had “been fortunate to have an outstanding staff who are very dedicated to the future of children and who love the kind of products we sell.” Throughout the 20+ years of business, Norman always enjoyed talking and interacting with the customers in his store. Hearing positive comments about the stores and products from teachers, parents, and grandparents was extremely rewarding for him. Norman passed away in April of 2005, battling a long fight with cancer. Norman’s family will continue his dedication of providing the community with educational products for children. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
